Fall Festival of Failure

An exploration creative idea generation

Failure is not an end in itself. Change narratives around failure. Is this example of white middle class privilege. No fan of cancel culture (lean into curiosity instead – casts them out). Too much critique can result in throwing the baby out with the bath water (16th century). The idea is to support strategic risk taking and to learn while doing. Articulate what you have learned from each engagement. Talk about failure in a meaningful way and evidence it. Think about play.

The principles

  1. Fail in the service of your (intercultural) practice.
  2. Push yourself 25/28 times in four weeks 16 Oct – 13 Nov.
  3. Lil pushes (unit of failure) Accumulate (the law of aggregate wins). Different to taking a big risk. Stretch but not snap. Sir Dave Brailsford – British Cycling 6.40.
  4. Privately (own time/space) and publicly (you choose what to share).
  5. The ‘contest’ is the context – capture in the spirit of the contest – over 4 weeks.

The process

  1. Plan
  2. Risk
  3. Realisation
  4. Reflection
  5. Evidence

Do it again… And again…

ARTISTIC PRACTICE: Painting of space jump with silver leaf; The end of at the demise of art – is it real? DO a library reader… literature review; parody public interest law actions by substituting bureaucrats in the place of the plaintiffs.
