MAIP Residency

Counterpoint Arts

In the first week we went on excursion to Counterpoint Arts, a charity and company limited by guarantee that works at the intersection of migration, social change and the arts. Tom Green, a producer at Counterpoint Arts, gave us a fascinating overview of their work.

All our work is done in collaboration and we always seek to build capacity through our programmes. Inherent in all of our work is an awareness of intersectionality and in our current business plan we are also bringing a particular focus on climate justice and mental health in the context of displacement.

Artists & collaborators

Dana Olărescu is a socially engaged artist working across participatory methods, performance and activism. Her work explores migration, marginality, and systems of access and exclusion.

Henna Asikainen’s practice reflects on landscape, belonging and ecological justice, often engaging with displaced communities and environmental change.

They talked about some of the recent projects including an exhibition at BALTIC Centre for Contemporary Art that explores ideas of dispossession, care and cultural memory through collaborative research and artistic dialogue and a public space intervention, You Look As Though You Might Be a Relation, and performance project questioning kinship, visibility and relationality in the context of migration and postcolonial identity.
